WITH YOUR HELP - Short film for Mae Tao Clinic
Script, Camera, Editing, Music and Sound by Sappalot Productions.
Mae Tao Clinic (MTC), founded and directed by Dr. Cynthia Maung, provides free health care for refugees, migrant workers, and other individuals who cross the border from Burma to Thailand. People of all ethnicities and religions are welcome at the Clinic. Its origins go back to the student pro-democracy movement in Burma in 1988 and the brutal repression by the Burmese regime of that movement. The fleeing students who needed medical attention were attended to in a small house in Mae Sot which grew into a clinic, providing consultations for over 100,000 patients annually.
Since Myanmar's transition towards democracy in 2015, funding has shifted from the country's borders to the center. This has caused a lot of challenges for many non-profit organizations on the border that provide vital support to the large refugee and migrant population living in the border areas. Because of this shift, many organizations are struggling to meet the needs of marginalized communities living without access to the most basic services such as education or health care.
